Knight of Cups

The Knight of Cups lives on the sensual side of life.

For them, emotion is expressed poetically and physically. You or someone around you might be a charismatic romancer, wooing for attention and pleasure.

That’s not to say the Knight of Cups can’t move past the excitement of the chase. Their deeper self is quite tender; although not easily accessible. So, you or someone around you might be tough to unlock.

The Knight of Cups seems to do things on their own timeline; they need to hold the reigns and bare their heart on their terms. If this represents someone in your life, you might need to consider your holding power… connecting is going to take time. Will it be worth the wait? That’s the question.

If this card represents you, the Knight of Cups can be a call to move beyond the honeymoon stage and get into the real deal. Are you brave enough to pull back the curtains?

Then again, maybe the wining and dining could be just the move you need to make. You might need to make your intentions clear. Flowers, compliments, and surprises could lure in the person your gaze is fixed on.

In a reading about a goal, job, or opportunity, the Knight of Cups wants you to pull out all the stops and work your magic. Glamor your onlookers and make them lust for your goods. Your success may depend on your allure, which overlaps with making others feel desired.

The cup given by the Knight could also be an opportunity presented to you. Look to surrounding cards to see if a carrot is being dangled or if the cup is full of the good stuff. This is a could-go-either-way card.

When drawn reversed, the romancer becomes the love bomber; a narcissist who thrives on the control gained by making you the object of their desire. You or someone else might be using passion as a weapon.

The desire to cage someone is often driven by fear of abandonment or the need to be admired; self-worth comes from others. Because the Knight of Cups needs adoring fans, sometimes loyalty is difficult for them.

The Knight of Cups reversed can also be a heart so deeply bound you can’t make out its beat. You or someone in your life might be buried in a sea of emotion, depressed, withdrawn, or unable to describe their feelings.

Their inability to communicate well can lead to an explosive temper, or alternatively, the silent treatment; they can’t talk about how they feel because they don’t have the language to. This can lead to bottled up and exploding or projecting their own imbalances onto you. If left to fester, the emotional imbalance of the Knight can lead to addictive or self-destructive behaviors.

When considered in a more positive light, the Knight of Cups is the power of the chase and the emotional high that comes with. The win might be ongoing or a quick dopamine fix. Look at the underside of what’s being presented.
